Espresso Machine
Makes 1 cup
What you'll need:
18g ground coffee (espresso grind), water (machine-controlled)
Steps:
- Warm the portafilter by running a blank shot.
- Dose 18g coffee and distribute evenly.
- Tamp firmly and wipe the rim clean.
- Lock into the group head and start extraction.
- Aim for ~36g yield in 25-30 seconds.
What to expect
A concentrated cup with richness, sweetness and structure.
Moka Pot
Makes 1-2 cups
What you'll need:
18-20g ground coffee (espresso grind), hot water (to safety valve)
Steps:
- Fill the base with hot water up to the safety valve.
- Add coffee to the basket and level without tamping.
- Assemble and place on medium heat with lid open.
- Lower heat once coffee begins to flow.
- Remove from heat when it starts to sputter.
What to expect
Strong, rich and intense, with a rounded finish.
Phin
Makes 1 cup
What you'll need:
18g ground coffee (espresso grind), 120-130g hot water
Steps:
- Preheat the phin and cup, then discard the water.
- Add coffee and gently level.
- Place the press plate on top without compressing.
- Bloom with ~30g of hot water for 30 seconds.
- Fill with 120-130g hot water, cover and allow to drip for 4-5 minutes.
What to expect
Dense body, low acidity and deep, chocolate-led notes.
Pour-over (V60)
Makes 1 cup
What you'll need:
18g ground coffee (filter grind), 300g hot water
Steps:
- Rinse the paper filter and discard the rinse water.
- Add coffee and level the bed.
- Bloom with ~60g hot water for 30-45 seconds.
- Pour slowly up to 300g total water.
- Finish brewing at around 2:30-3:00.
What to expect
High clarity with layered flavours and brightness.
Chemex
Makes 2 cups
What you'll need:
32g ground coffee (filter grind), 500g hot water
Steps:
- Rinse the Chemex filter thoroughly with hot water.
- Add coffee and level the bed.
- Bloom with ~80g water for 30-45 seconds.
- Pour slowly up to 500g total water.
- Brew time should be around 3:30-4:00.
What to expect
Clean, elegant and aromatic, with exceptional clarity.
AeroPress
Makes 1 cup
What you'll need:
14g ground coffee (filter grind), 210g hot water
Steps:
- Rinse the filter and assemble the AeroPress.
- Add coffee and pour in 210g hot water.
- Stir gently for 10 seconds.
- Brew for around 90 seconds.
- Press slowly and serve.
What to expect
Balanced and smooth, with flexibility to suit taste.
French Press
Makes 2 cups
What you'll need:
30g ground coffee (coarse grind), 500g hot water
Steps:
- Preheat the press, then discard the water.
- Add coffee and pour in 500g hot water.
- Stir once and place the lid on top.
- Brew for 4 minutes.
- Press down slowly and serve.
What to expect
Full-bodied, rich and textured.
Cold Brew
Makes 3-4 servings
What you'll need:
100g coffee (coarse grind), 1 litre cold water
Steps:
- Add coffee to a jar or cold brew maker.
- Pour in 1 litre cold water and stir.
- Cover and steep in the fridge for 12-18 hours.
- Strain and serve over ice.
What to expect
Smooth, mellow and naturally sweet.
